Ignition!
So far this month, we have: Wraps of myelin around your neural pathways is how you develop talent
Deep practice, with repetition and fixing your mistakes right away, is how you grow myelin
The next question is… how do you keep on doing deep practice??
Deep practice isn’t a walk in the park
It requires energy, passion, and commitment
So where do you get energy, passion, and commitment??
You get it from something Daniel Coyle calls.. Ignition!
Ignition is the motivational fuel that keeps you going, keeps you firing your circuits, honing your skills, and getting better
It’s the fire in your bones that separates the top performers from everyone else
It’s often a moment where you see someone do something amazing and now you know it’s possible
And you know it’s possible for you.
Now you’re ignited! And that flame is hard to put out.
That moment is often looked at as just the stars aligning or just the circumstances being just right
But, can it be created? Can ignition be manufactured… by you?
That’s today’s secret for an awesome life. Yes, ignition can be created. If you know the right ingredients.
Based on Daniel Coyle’s book, the Talent Code but regurgitated by me
Here are three things you’ll need to create the ignition you need
One: a community
Surround yourself with people who share the same dreams, desires, and positivity toward the possibilities
Naysayers and negative neds and nancy’s will put out your fire
You’re gonna need that fire to put in the hours of deep practice that’s required
Two: a calling
Do you feel called to do this thing?
Like, for realsies?
Can you openly and honestly say, outloud, I am a blank
You fill in the blank with the thing you want to be
I am a chess player
I am a cellist
I am an actor
soy un hablante de español
Make it part of your identity! You need to feel comfortable and confident wearing it on a shirt, taking a picture wearing that shirt, having that picture put in the year book, and believe that one day some YouTube channel will dig it up and show it during a biography of you as evidence that you always knew you would be successful
The sense of being called to become, that’s a key factor of ignition
Three: A conquering hero
Find someone who has done the thing you are trying to do, and learn their success story
Make them the hero who has gone before you, whose path you are going to follow!
They are the trailblazer, the bridge builder, and you are not only going to follow in their footsteps, but pick up where they left off taking the path to new heights
These three ingredients are the recipe for ignition
A community, a calling, and a conquering hero
Chances are you might already have some of those. If not, get them!
Because deep practice is the car. The really nice car. And there is nothing wrong with it.
If you’re not moving closer to your talent goals, it’s probably because you aren’t ignited. Your car is not on.
You need to light the fire in the engine!
Because without ignition, you really aren’t going to get anywhere
